At Heritage Roadways, we work across Essex on all kinds of commercial surfacing projects, and last week we completed a timber yard resurfacing job in Maldon that we're really pleased with.
The challenge
Timber yards are tough environments for any surface. Heavy goods vehicles, forklifts, and constant loading and unloading activity all take their toll, and over time even a well-laid yard road can deteriorate to the point where it becomes a safety concern and an operational headache.
That was the situation at this busy Maldon timber yard. The existing surface had reached the end of its life and needed replacing with something built to last.

Our solution
We specified 14mm SMA (Stone Mastic Asphalt) tarmac for this project. SMA is a premium surfacing material specifically designed for high-stress, high-traffic applications. Its dense, gap-free composition makes it highly resistant to rutting and deformation under heavy loads, exactly what a working timber yard needs.
Our team laid and rolled the new surface efficiently, keeping disruption to the yard's daily operations to a minimum.
The result
A smooth, durable yard road that can handle whatever a busy commercial site throws at it, day in, day out.
