You are currently viewing Booking driveway work before winter: why late summer is the right time

As the summer winds down, a driveway is easy to forget about. The days are still reasonable and there are other things to think about. But late summer and early autumn is quietly one of the best windows in the year to get surfacing work done, and there are good reasons not to leave it until the cold arrives.

Weather still on your side

Laying a surface well depends on the conditions. Tarmac needs dry ground and a workable temperature to compact properly, and resin and block paving both prefer a dry base. In September the ground is usually still warm and dry from the summer, which makes for a clean, reliable job. Once the wetter, colder weather sets in, those good windows become harder to find.

Beating the autumn rush

Every year the enquiries pick up sharply once the first bad weather reminds people their driveway has seen better days. Booking now means you are ahead of that rush rather than waiting behind it. A good contractor's diary fills from one season into the next, so an early conversation gives you the pick of dates rather than whatever is left.

Thinking about it for this year? Now is the time to get a no-obligation quote booked in, while the weather is still on our side. Email us here and we will come and take a look.

What can still be done, and what is better held over

Plenty of work can be completed comfortably before winter, from full driveway installations to repairs and resurfacing. Some jobs, particularly larger ones or anything needing a long spell of dry weather, may be better planned now and carried out early in spring. Either way, getting the site visit and quote sorted in the autumn puts you in control of the timing rather than the weather deciding for you.

If your driveway is looking tired, the honest first step is simply to have someone look at it. We will tell you plainly whether it needs work now, whether it can wait, and what the sensible order of things is.
